Denied Identity

So I’m not really the one that had this happen to her. I just know that it’s a thing that is happening. I can’t seem to understand how someone could deny someone else a right to their identity.

So I’m just really sick of the following ideas:

  • The idea that someone can refuse to use pronouns based on religious belief.
  • The idea that someone can refuse to use a preferred name based on religious belief.
  • The idea that being transgender is inherently wrong, doesn’t exist, or is morally wrong in the Bible.
  • Just because you aren’t means that it shouldn’t exist.
  • The idea that freedom of speech means people have to listen.
  • The idea that hate speech should not be silenced.
  • “They” isn’t singular

Look I think you are entitled to an opinion. But you have no right to say the pronouns I use are invalid. Look if you slip up here and there that’s fine. But to intentionally refer to you with the wrong pronouns is not acceptable.

They say the boundaries for freedom of speech ends where another’s nose begins. You are intentionally punching someone in the face. This does not impede on your freedom of speech.

I guess essentially you are saying you don’t respect anyone who is a transgender person. You don’t believe someone can be transgender. You can’t interact with someone else who has differing beliefs. I don’t know what it is… like does it mean you agree if you call them by their preferred pronouns? Does denying them this really advance your beliefs? I don’t know what is the benefit?

So… ok let’s assume this is about honesty and truth. Let’s assume you are a Christian. You believe people have souls. So then what is the true you? Is it your body or soul? Are we to follow our flesh?

Sin entered the world, right? Who is to say that the birth wasn’t perfect? Are we not born into sin? Isn’t that already imperfection? What about birth defects? Malformed organs? Why are they limited to life sustaining organs?

You’re right I guess I’ve crossed a line. That’s different. Genetics are right, right? What about abnormalities–the intersex? These are people who are genetically male or female but develop differently. Are these people different since their genes are right? What if they believe they were born the right gender? Does that mean they are wrong and deceive themselves?

No, no… I’m sorry. I’ll stop. We can agree to disagree.
